Nissan assured state lawmakers they would include all Mississippians when they decided to build a plant here. Now meetings around the state are aimed at getting all businesses involved. Coast residents got the chance to attend one of the 10 meetings designed to educate business owners of their opportunities with Nissan.
The workshops are hosted by the Mississippi Development Authority and discuss the ways local businesses can get involved with the project to build the Nissan plant especially small, disadvantaged and minority businesses.
Gennie Lacy Jones is the director of Minority Business Enterprise Design with the Mississippi Development Authority and says, "The people attending the workshops, the message that we're trying to deliver is that the times are changing in Mississippi, we're in a major evolution here and we are about inclusion in this state."
