SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) -

Several cold weather shelters are opening across South Mississippi.

The Salvation Army is opening its shelters in Gulfport (4 p.m. to 8 a.m.) and Pascagoula (4:30 p.m. to 8 a.m.) through Saturday night.

Hancock County's cold weather shelter at the Old Spanish Trail Baptist Church located at 5078 Hwy 90, about a mile west of the Waveland Walmart, will be open through Friday from 6 p.m. to 9 a.m. Anyone needing a ride to that shelter can contact the Hancock County Sheriff's Department at (228) 255-9191 for assistance.

The D'Iberville multipurpose building, located near the civic center, will also operate as a cold weather shelter until Sunday morning.

The Stone County Emergency Management Agency will open a shelter across the street from Stone County High School, located at 400 East Border Ave. in Wiggins, at 4:30 p.m. Friday

The WLOX First Alert Weather Team predicts a high chance for freezing temperatures Friday, Saturday, and Sunday morning across South Mississippi. That means residents will want to protect pets, plants, and people during those cold times.
