Study To Determine Value Of HCDC

Harrison County Supervisors want to know if taxpayers are getting their money's worth from the county's development commission.

Monday, the board voted to have the University of Mississippi economic's department do a performance evaluation on the HCDC. Supervisors say the critique would determine if the commission creates enough jobs and economic growth to make it cost effective.

"The evaluation will be used to look at the Development Commission and maybe make some recommendations for changes in policies, changes in actions, that will be beneficial to the taxpayers," District 3 Supervisor Marlin Ladner said.

Ladner says the call for the evaluation grew from concerns about the amount of money the development commission was spending. He expects the process to take about three months.
