Three sections of the beach in Harrison and Jackson Counties are now closed after tests conducted by the Department of Environmental Quality showed high bacteria levels.
The areas will be closed until further notice. Sand beach workers placed warning signs on the beach Thursday morning in the areas that are now closed.
In Harrison County, one closed section is in Biloxi between Iberville Drive and Travia Drive. The second location is in Gulfport between the Least Tern nesting area, and Laurel Drive.
In Jackson County, the beach is closed from Weeks Bayou to Waters Edge in Ocean Springs.
The water will be tested on a daily basis until bacteria levels are within normal limits.
