HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

A Forrest County jury found a Gulfport man guilty of aggravated assault and kidnapping on Tuesday.

Judge Bob Helfrich sentenced Kunta Kidd to a life sentence on each charge, with the terms to run consecutively.

Kidd was arrested in September 2016 after a Hattiesburg man was set on fire in 500 block of Ruby Avenue. According to HPD, the victim said Kidd and another man poured gasoline on him and lit him on fire.

After an investigation, Kidd turned himself in to Hattiesburg police and was initially charged with aggravated assault.

Kidd was also charged with two counts of armed robbery in September 2017 after an incident in the 1000 block of Edwards Street.

The case was tried by assistant district attorneys Decarlo Hood and Josh Fortenberry.
