Turkey Creek Flooding Study Finished, Ready For Public Comment

Citizens with concerns about flooding from Turkey Creek will find out about a possible solution during a public hearing August 18th.

Monday, two representatives from the Corps of Engineers told Harrison County Supervisors they have completed a two year study of the creek and why it floods.

Of the 25 repair options, the Corps has chosen one it says is affordable and environmentally friendly.

"It's economically justified and what that means is the return to the local area and to the United States government is greater than one. For every dollar we put in, we're getting more than a dollar in return, in terms of flood reduction," Johnny Grandison with the Corps of Engineers said.

Grandison won't reveal which plan the Corps favors or how much it will cost. He says that will all be revealed at the August 18th public hearing.
