Waveland Condo Proposal Loses First Battle

A proposed condominium development in Waveland was shot down by Planning and Zoning Commissioners Monday night.

More than 200 people showed up at the commissions' board meeting to voice their opinions on the issue. Many couldn't even get inside the building.

The developer wanted to build 240 condo units in the SunDance Subdivision off of Sears Avenue. The project needed a zoning change from Single Family Residential to Multi-Family in order to go forward.

A majority of those who showed up opposed the plan, saying the infrastructure in the area can't handle a project of that magnitude.

In the end, the commission voted uniamously against the proposal. However, the Waveland Board of Alderman will have the final say. They are expected to vote on the issue next Tuesday night.
