Accident On I-10 Ties Up Traffic For Hours

An accident on I-10 in Biloxi slowed traffic to a crawl for about three hours Saturday morning.

Police say the driver of an 18-wheeler rear-ended a van carrying shrimp around 6:45 a.m. in the westbound lanes of I-10 near the Cedar Lake exit. The 18-wheeler jack-knifed and flipped on its side.

Emergency crews had to cut the driver out of the rig. The driver of the van was also injured. Both men were taken to Biloxi Regional Hospital, but neither was seriously injured.

Police cited the driver of the 18-wheeler for inattentive driving.

Traffic was down to one lane and was backed up for several miles while crews cleaned up the accident.
