FORT BRAGG, NC (RNN) - Soldiers who are part of the U.S. Army’s Special Operations Command have been hurt in an explosion, which occurred during a training accident on Thursday morning.

The training exercise killed one and injured seven others.

The Associated Press identified the deceased soldier as Staff Sgt. Alexander P. Dalida, 32, of Dunstable, MA.

It was unknown what caused the explosion. U.S. Army Special Command is investigating.

"There was an incident that occurred on one of the ranges," said Lt. Col. Rob Bockholt. "We're looking into exactly what happened."

The accident comes one day after a soldier died in a Fort Hood, TX training exercise, KXXV reported. The soldier was killed in an incident involving a Black Hawk helicopter during medical evacuation training.

The deceased soldier was a member of the 1st Infantry Division based in Ft. Riley, KS, and has not been named pending notification of the next of kin.

Also on Wednesday, an amphibious vehicle caught fire during a training exercise at Camp Pendleton in Southern California on Wednesday. Fifteen Marines were hospitalized, eight were sent to the Burn Center at the University of California San Diego Heath.

On Wednesday, three of the Marines were listed in critical condition, five were listed in serious condition at that hospital. Four others were sent to the University of California Irvine Medical Center, two of which were in critical condition, according to the Associated Press.

Located in North Carolina, Fort Bragg is the largest military installation in the world by population with more than 50,000 active duty personnel. The 82nd Airborne Division is headquartered there, along with the U.S. Army Special Operations Command. There are two airfields at Fort Bragg.

Named for Braxton Bragg, a North Carolina native who was a Confederate general, Camp Bragg was established in 1918 as an artillery training ground for World War I. Despite a push to close the installation after World War I, the site became Fort Bragg on Sept. 30, 1922.
