Affordable Housing Project Up For Rent

The plans have changed for a promised neighborhood renewal project near downtown Gulfport. Four new houses are still vacant near the intersection of 33rd Avenue and 20th Street.

Nearly a year ago, local builder Lonnie Fountain announced plans to build a dozen "affordable homes" on the block. Unfortunately, the first of the new homes never sold.

Fountain told WLOX News he's since sold the houses and property to Cal Realty, which is advertising the houses for rent.

A spokesman for Cal Realty says the company also plans to build new townhomes and duplexes in that same block.
