The Biloxi Shuckers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the second. Clint Coulter hit a grounder to Blue Wahoos shortstop Blake Trahan and on the play Dustin DeMuth galloped to home plate with the games first run.
In the top of the fifth inning, Coulter provided the big hit. The Shuckers right fielder blasted his 12th home run, a solo-blast that propelled Biloxi to a 2-0 advantage.
In the sixth inning, Gabriel Noriega came through with a line drive into center field that plated Blake Allemand.
Angel Ortega ripped the ball over the left field wall, a two run shot, his seventh home run and the Shuckers appeared to be coasting under the win column.
Not so fast.
Biloxi gave up a single run in the bottom of the 8th and the Blue Wahoos would make a big splash before the Shuckers would put out the Pensacola rally.\
Biloxi closer Jorge Lopez didn't have his best stuff when he came in to pitch the ninth inning. Lopez gave up 3 runs on 3 hits, 2 base on balls and a strikeout.
The Shuckers would get that last out and posted their 49th win on the season against 51 losses...a 5-4 victory.
Starting pitcher Luis Ortiz had a very good performance on the mound. In 7 innings, Ortiz gave up one run, on 4 hits with 7 strikeouts.
Clint Coulter closed out the night with 2 hits in 4 trips to the plate with 2 RBI and scored a run. Angel Ortega was 1-for-4, with the lone hit a 2-run home run. Blake Allemand was 2-for-4 with a run scored and Gabriel Noriega had 2 hits in four trips to the plate and 1 RBI.
The Shuckers and Blue Wahoos clash in game two of the give game series 6:35 Wednesday night.
