OCEAN SPRINGS, MS (WLOX) -

An Ocean Springs gas station clerk was beaten over two hot dogs and a gallon of antifreeze, according to police. Now, a Hattiesburg man and Laurel woman are charged with strong arm robbery and receiving stolen property.

Detective Capt. William Jackson, with the Ocean Springs Police Department, said the robbery happened just before midnight Saturday at the Circle K at the intersection of Washington Ave. and Bienville Blvd.

Jackson said the clerk reported James Bryant, 24, walked into the store, grabbed the hot dogs and antifreeze, and walked out without paying.

When the clerk confronted Bryant about the stolen items, he reportedly attacked. Jackson said Bryant punched the clerk in the face several times before driving away.

The clerk was able to get a good look at the car Bryant was in, and police started to search based off the description. Officers spotted the vehicle on Hwy. 90 a short time later.

Jackson said Bryant and the passenger in the vehicle, 29-year-old Christina Martinez, were taken into custody without incident. Jackson said the vehicle the suspects were in was reported stolen out of Mendenhall, MS.

Both suspects are awaiting their initial court appearance in the Ocean Springs Municipal Jail.
