HURLEY, MS (WLOX) -

A group of soccer players from all over the Coast is coming together for a common cause: Team Freedom.

After becoming the first team from Mississippi to win a 1st Place National Titles at the State Games of America, and then becoming the first team in the country to do so in back-to-back games, Team Freedom is preparing to go for the first-ever three-peat with their upcoming trip to Grand Rapids, MI.

The team features 17 young women 16 years of age and younger from various high schools along the Coast, including Ocean Springs, St. Martin, Pascagoula, Resurrection, George County, East Central, St. Patrick and South Jones.

"Just very happy to be able to get a group of girls like this that want to play soccer and go do something that's very prestigious as this event is," head coach Robert Thomas said.

"It feels like we're setting an example," Lauren Thomas of East Central said. "We're just trying to show what Gulf Coast soccer is all about."

"Teamwork, you have to be committed," said Katie Havard of East Central when asked what it takes to win at the State Games of America. "You have to just want it, work hard for it."

"It's cool because all these players I see in high school (I'm usually) going against," Autumn Fike of Ocean Springs said. "Now we're playing on one team, it's cool. It's a great experience."

To help cover costs for the upcoming trip, the team set up a GoFundMe page which you can find here - https://www.gofundme.com/kh5fb-team-freedom
