JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

A former corrections officer at the Jackson County Adult Detention Center is headed to prison for having sex with an inmate.

Bradley Scott Davis admitted to having sex with a female inmate inside the county jail in June 2016. Davis was an 11-year veteran with the sheriff’s department.

District Attorney Tony Lawrence said while the evidence showed the sex was consensual, it's still illegal to take advantage of a person he took an oath to protect.

"I know Mr. Davis regrets being involved in this incident and I appreciate his willingness to admit his wrongdoing and accept the court's punishment," Lawrence said.

Special Appointed Judge Stephen Simpson sentenced Davis to five years in prison. He must serve 18 months, day for day. He must also pay court costs, a $1000 fine, and $150 to the crime victim’s compensation fund.

Davis is one of two former deputies accused of having inappropriate relationships with inmates at the jail. A grand jury also indicted Johnathan Jenkins in October. The alleged activity involving Jenkins happened over two days in September.
