Award-winning director Ava DuVernay explores the troubling statistics about the US prison system in her recent Netflix documentary, 13th.
Taking its name from the 13th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, the film delves into the connection between slavery and the current prison system.
The Iota Upsilon Chapter of Omega Psi Phi, Inc. has partnered with area organizations to host an educational screening of the film. Just under two hours, a community discussion will be held following the screening.
The event will take place on Saturday, July 22 at 12:30 p.m. in the community room at Hancock Bank, located at 888 Howard Dr.
The screening is free to attend, but registration is required.
