GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - The body of Kevin Anderson, 51, was recovered from the Mississippi Sound on Wednesday morning.
Anderson took his 17-foot boat out Monday night. The boat appeared on the Gulfport beachfront near 15th Street early Tuesday. Its engine was running. But, it's captain was nowhere to be found.
At sunrise Wednesday, the Department of Marine Resources' marine patrol division sent out five search vessels. The Coast Guard also had resources combing the Mississippi Sound.
After searching the water all day Tuesday, the search Wednesday focused on the Camille Cut, that section of the sound that splits Ship Island. Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove said he was notified at 8:25 a.m. that Marine Patrol had found the body in that search area.
Hargrove said Anderson's body will be sent to Jackson for an autopsy. That's expected to happen Thursday. Hargrove also said he will be meeting with Anderson's family to gather more details on his medical history.
Anderson owns Kevin Anderson Salon on Courthouse Road. A Facebook post from Kevin Anderson Salon says, "Our hearts are breaking! We can only hope and pray for the best."
