PASCAGOULA, MS (WLOX) -

Community organizations took over IG Levy Memorial Park in Pascagoula on Saturday to talk all things health.

Rainy weather pushed the activities under the north pavilion for the third annual "Saving our Health" awareness rally. It was a day of discussing healthy living and well being. The focus was on issues like diabetes, obesity, and high cholesterol, and where to go for help.

The annual event was geared specifically towards the homeless community.

"Well, basically we're doing this because we wanted to do something positive in the community. We decided there was a lack of helping out homeless and we were finding that there were resources people were not taking advantage of," said co-organizer Darius Pierce. "We want to bring them all together and give people that think there's no hope, some hope."

The event also featured free food, entertainment, and vendors.

We live in a wonderful time. We have the capability of instant communication with almost anyone at any time; all in the palm of our hands. We can stay connected to everyone all the time which is great - most of the time. There are times when we need to put aside our smart phones and do our jobs.
