Tropical Weather Outlook

SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) - As we enter the third week of July, the tropics are expected to stay quiet over the Gulf of Mexico and western Caribbean. It's a slightly different story in the eastern Atlantic where a tropical wave is being monitored for potential development this week.

An area of unorganized convention east of the Lesser Antilles will track west towards the eastern Caribbean. As of now, environmental conditions don't look favorable for rapid development. If it becomes a named storm, it will be called Don.

Climatologically speaking, if a disturbance does not become a named storm east of the Lesser Antilles, it typically dies once it crosses into the eastern Caribbean.
