Keon Barnum proved to be a thorn in the side of Biloxi Shuckers starting pitcher Jon Perrin. The Barons first baseman had 2 hits in 3 trips to the plate, scored 2 runs and had 1 RBI.
In the top of the 3rd inning Barnum hit a triple down the right field line. He would score the games first run on a hit off a long fly ball to right center field by Alfredo Gonzalez who ended up at second base when the ball popped out of the Shuckers outfielder.
Jake Peter slapped a single just past the Shuckers short stop. that plated Gonzalez that gave Birmingham a 2-0 advantage.
Barnum would get all of Perrins pitch in the top of the fourth inning, belting his 13th home run, a solo-shot to right field.
In the bottom of the inning Biloxi's Clint Coulter blasted his 11th home run, a solo-shot to left field.
The Shuckers would get no closer. Barons starting pitcher Michael Kopech (W, 5-6) gave up one run on 4 hits, 2 base-on-balls and 5 strikeouts. He consistently threw his fast ball in the mid to upper 90's.
Perrin (L, 3-2) suffered his second loss of the season. He gave up 3 runs on 6 hits and 6 strikeouts.
Game three of the five-game series is set for 6:35 p.m. Saturday at MGM Park.
