BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Mississippi State offensive lineman Martinas Rankin isn't a huge fan of the spotlight. He's quick to deflect any praise and brush off any prospects about his promising future. But, if the Mississippi Gulf Coast product doesn't want to talk about himself, we'll do it for him.
Outlets already have Rankin as a potential first-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. In fact, FoxSports.com currently has him going ninth overall to the Bengals.
All this is pretty lofty praise for the 6'5, 305 pound lineman, but as he told reporters at SEC Media Days, Rankin says he won't let the praise get in the way of his work ethic.
"It's really something I really try not to focus on," Rankin told the assembled media in Hoover, AL. "I have to just continue to work hard, take things day by day, you know, it's a long way away. I feel like if I focus on that, I'm gonna distract myself from being a great leader and a great player for my team, and that's just the number one goal in my eyes. If I go out and work hard for my team, everything else will take care of itself."
