LUCEDALE, MS (WLOX) - The suspect in a deadly Lucedale shooting is in custody. Police Chief Kellum Fairley said Demetrius Spivery, 31, turned himself in Thursday at noon.
Spivery is accused of shooting and killing Demetrius Pate at a Tuesday night cookout near the corner of S. Pine St. and Estes St.
Fairley said an officer was driving by the cookout when he heard a gunshot. When the officer got out to investigate, he found Pate sitting inside a running SUV, suffering from a single gunshot wound. Pate, 33, died at the scene.
Lucedale investigators have not found the weapon used to kill Pate. From what they know, the two men reportedly had a verbal dispute at the cookout, and that escalated to gunfire.
Spivery is charged with murder and is being held at the George County jail on a $500,000 bond.
