SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) - As we enter the second full week of July, there are two areas being monitored in the tropics. The first is the "ghost" of Tropical Depression 4 east of the Bahamas. Redevelopment is not anticipated but the remnants are worth keeping an eye on. This still does not appear to be a threat to south Mississippi.
Our attention is also focused on a tropical wave off the coast of Africa. Some forecast models suggest some slow development over the next 5-7 day. As of now it's way too soon to say if this may become a tropical depression or named storm and is too far away to be an immediate concern.
Historically, storms have developed this far out in the Atlantic in July, however, it's not as common as it is in August and September.
