Overnight fire destroys vacant home in Gulfport

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -

A fire early Sunday morning has left a vacant home in Gulfport destroyed.

According to Gulfport Fire Department, the call came in around 1 a.m. The single-story home, located in the 4400 block of 30th Street, was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived on the scene.

Battalion Chief Chris Henderson said neighbors smelled smoke and called 911 after seeing flames coming from the home. Henderson said the home appeared to be vacant and no one was found inside. It took firefighters two hours to extinguish the flames. 

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
