GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - Firefighters in Gulfport responded to a fire on Collins Ave. Saturday afternoon.
Battalion Chief Chris Henderson says the flames were likely the result a of a lightning strike.
The resident was in the shower with the fire started, and was unaware of the flames until the mail carrier banged on the door to alert her. Both the woman and another resident were able to safely escape.
According to Gulfport Fire Chief Michael Beyerstadt, the home was the third residence hit by lightning Saturday. The Columns Apartments and an additional property near Mills Road were also hit. Neither caught fire.
