SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) - Once again, showers and thunderstorms are possible across south Mississippi today. A complex of storms north of Jackson will make a run to south Mississippi late this afternoon. A few of those storms may approach severe limits with strong gusty winds. All storms will be capable of lightning and heavy rain. Don't expect Saturday to be a complete wash-out. There will be plenty of dry times too, which will allow for the heat to build and heat index values to climb into the 95-105°F range.
While storms may put on a light show today and this evening, tonight's full moon may try to steal their thunder. July's full moon is called the "Thunder Moon" typically because thunderstorms are common in the month of July. If storms can clear out around moon rise at 7:40 PM you may be able to enjoy a beautiful view over the southeast horizon. Look for Saturn to the upper right of the moon!
