ADAMS COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

Maurice Pugh of Laurel, Miss. has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for kidnapping.

According to police, a friend of the victim flagged down law enforcement in the area of Highway 49 and 26th Ave. the night of Feb. 14, 2016 and said someone grabbed her friend and drove away. 41-year-old Pugh was located a short distance away, holding the victim by her neck.

After running away from police, Pugh was found again a block away and taken into custody.

During the investigation, it was revealed that Pugh had been released from the Mississippi Department of Correction a month prior to the crime, and was on post-release supervision. His probation has been revoked, and he is currently serving the reminder of that sentence in Jones County.

The sentence for the kidnapping charge will begin after he has fully served the time for his previous conviction. Because Pugh was prosecuted as a habitual offender, he is not eligible for parole, or early release.
