GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - Gulfport Mayor Bill Hewes officially began another four-year term at City Hall Thursday. Hewes ran without opposition in this year's election. He was sworn-in during a ceremony at First United Methodist Church, along with members of the city council.
Some of the main issues facing the city include tourism and economic development, infrastructure, and crime prevention. Hewes praised his team and the effort to work together with other cities to grow and develop.
"The attitudinal change fostered by One Coast is palpable and there's a spirit that people embraced and it was grass roots. It didn't have to be pushed and that we all understood," Mayor Billy Hewes said.
Three council members also ran unopposed in the election.
Ward 2 Councilman Ron Roland is the only new face on the board. He defeated Ricky Dombrowski in the May primary.
