DIAMONDHEAD, MS (WLOX) - A bright new day for Diamondhead. That's how Mayor Tommy Schaefer described Thursday's inauguration.
Diamondhead City Hall was filled with spectators as the new council and mayor took the oath of office.
The city council has been completely transformed for the next term with Nancy Depreo of Ward 1 the only returning council member. New council members include Alan Moran, Ward 2; Jamie Wetzel Morgan, Ward 3; Kodie Koenenn, Ward 4; and Lindsay L'Ecuyer, council member at large.
Schaefer returns to office after a somewhat contentious primary battle for mayor. He said he's excited about the opportunities to address some big issues.
"I'm looking forward to working with an entirely new council that's going to come in here with an open mind, ready to do the work of the city of Diamondhead," Schaefer said. "They put themselves out there. They all won. And, it's just a bright new day for Diamondhead. There's nothing but positive energy going on right now."
Schaefer said his priorities are storm water management, housing demands, service transportation and the Interstate 10 exchange.
