Five stolen vehicles have been recovered and two men are charged with motor vehicle theft thanks to a recent anonymous Crime Stoppers tip.

Gautier Police Department spokesman Capt. Casey Baxter said the tip came in to the department’s criminal investigations division June 19. The tip quickly led to a vehicle that was reported stolen out of Mobile, AL.

Baxter said 18-year-old Scielar McKenzie was linked to the stolen vehicle and arrested.

In the following days, investigators located four more vehicles reported stolen out of Gautier and Mobile and made another arrest.

Jermaine Shoemaker, 24, was arrested June 21.

Baxter said McKenzie is charged three counts of motor vehicle theft and possession of stolen property. Shoemaker is charged with two counts of motor vehicle theft.

Detective Lt. Jerry Killingsworth said the investigation is ongoing and more vehicle recoveries and arrests are expected.
