HANCOCK COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

New information this morning about gunfire in Bayside Park. Hancock County investigators tell us they arrested a second person reportedly linked to the Wednesday shooting. The person taken into custody is a 15-year-old girl. Investigators say she’s the alleged driver of a vehicle involved in the early afternoon shooting.  She’s charged with attempted murder.

So is a 15-year-old male who allegedly shot an older teen in the back of the neck in a drive-by shooting in the Bayside Park neighborhood. Glenn Grannan, chief investigator with the Hancock County Sheriff's Department said the shooting happened before 10:30 a.m. on Hancock Dr. near Madison St. while the victim was riding his bike.

Grannan said the 17-year-old victim is in critical condition at University Hospital in New Orleans. The alleged shooter is charged as an adult.

According to investigators, the shooter was in a vehicle driven by someone else when he pulled the trigger. Grannan said at least two shots were fired, and the 17-year-old was hit twice in the back of the neck “just below the skull.” Investigators say the car rode past the victim, turned around, approached the bike and stopped when it reached the teen.  At that point, they say a shot was fired, and the car took off

The victim was found in a ditch with his bike. Grannan said another person who was not involved in the shooting was riding with the victim.

The suspect was found alone in the vehicle reportedly used in the shooting about two hours later. In addition to attempted murder, the suspect, who has not been identified, is also charged with tampering with physical evidence.

Grannan said investigators know who was driving the vehicle when the shooting happened, but they have not found that person yet.
