PASS CHRISTIAN, MS (WLOX) - You're not going to see huge hotel towers opening in a small, quaint town like Pass Christian. Investors there are betting on more intimate, boutique hotels to draw visitors to the Pass.
Hotel Pass Christian on Scenic Drive is an example of boutique hotels that are gaining popularity, especially in a small city like Pass Christian.
Just like the 11-room Hotel Whiskey, which opened on Davis Avenue a few months ago, this ten-room hotel across from the Pass Christian Harbor exemplifies a more quaint approach to travel and tourism.
"It's really about customer service. It's about staying somewhere where the rooms are not your typical cookie cutter rooms. It's more unique. It's like a home away from home," said hotel owner Jordan Nicoud.
Hotel Pass Christian also has retail space on the ground floor with a salon and spa, along with a fitness business. Nicoud has been working on this concept for years. Opening the hotel is very personal for this Pass Christian native.
"I'm so excited to have a completed hotel in my hometown. It helps to develop this area, which is what I want to do. I want to add jobs and get people in here to spend money here, which I believe is one of the prettiest places in the country," Nicoud said.
Nicoud went with a coastal look in designing the hotel and furnishing rooms. He also looked for unique pieces to feature in Hotel Pass Christian.
"This is our lobby and this desk we got out of the old Monteleone in New Orleans," according to Nicoud.
Hotel room balconies overlook the Pass Christian Harbor giving visitors views of scenery synonymous with the Gulf Coast.
Hotel Pass Christian will have its official grand opening on July 7.
