WIGGINS, MS (WLOX) -

It is a family-oriented attraction, that is synonymous with summertime.  Flint Creek Water Park in Wiggins has kicked-off another busy season.

"If you want to find summer activities, look no further than Flint Creek," said Stewart Smith, who’s been with the park for years.

Flint Creek has been a popular getaway for more than 50 years. A 640-acre lake provides ample opportunity for fishing, boating and water skiing. It’s the perfect place to enjoy what nature has to offer.

"We have like 152 RV sites, 46 overnight cabins. Years ago, back in the 80s, we started out with three cabins. Now, it's up to 46. We probably could use 20 more,” said Smith.

One of the most popular additions at Flint Creek was the Splash of Fun water park.

"Oh, we love it. It's family oriented. Lots of kids and it's fun for all ages," said Hillary Odom, who brought her grandchildren.

For the younger kids, the Lazy River is the hands down favorite.

"Cause it's super slow and like it has bunches of bumps," said Dalton Danzey.

The water park hosts special events and summertime programs. On this day, the Hancock County Sheriff's summer campers are enjoying the park.

"This is one of the kids' favorite places to go and they've always been very accommodating to us," said sheriff’s investigator Lynn Jones.

Tens of thousands of visitors are expected at Flint Creek on July 3rd. That is this year's date for the annual Fourth of July fireworks extravaganza.

"The last couple years, we've had fireworks that actually landed on the water and floated, like little ice crystals on top the water. The people loved it and we're looking forward to a big show and a big time," said Smith.
