Save a life by giving blood this week

SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) -

This week, you can help save a life. The American Red Cross is holding its annual Media for Red Cross Blood Drive through Wednesday.

This year, the blood drive is part of a friendly competition between the Biloxi Shuckers and the Birmingham Barons to collect the most blood.

Donors will have three opportunities to give the life-saving gift of blood this week:

Monday, June 26: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Edgewater Mall in Biloxi

Tuesday, June 27: noon to 6 p.m. at Hollywood Casino in Bay St. Louis

Wednesday, June 28: 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Jackson County Campus gym

    At 7:30 Wednesday morning, Ocean Springs city workers stepped up to the city hall flag pole. They hooked Mississippi's state flag underneath the American flag, and they raised both flags over the city hall grounds. And just like that, five days of debate over whether the state flag should fly in Ocean Springs temporarily came to an end.

    The father and son charged with killing Philip Whitaker will make their initial appearance in court Wednesday. A court clerk says Carl and Terry Smith will be in Hancock County Justice Court sometime today. Hancock County Sheriff’s Department investigators arrested Terry Smith and his son, Carl Smith Tuesday after questioning them about Whitaker's shooting death.
