HARRISON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

When a vehicle crashed into the woods off I-10 Monday morning, the two people inside told investigators the driver took off into the woods. They even named him, and it was a man familiar to local law enforcement. Officials said they found pills inside the wrecked vehicle. But it turns out nothing was as it first appeared.

No one was ever found hiding in the woods near the accident scene just west of the Long Beach exit near the Wolf River. In fact, as the Highway Patrol and Harrison County sheriff's deputies began investigating, they found no evidence that a mysterious, disappearing driver was ever in the vehicle.

Those pills, first thought to be illegal substances, turned out to be legal prescription medications.

The two people in the vehicle were treated for minor injuries. They're lucky considering the vehicle left the westbound lane of I-10, flipped, and crashed into the woods before coming to a stop.

Officials said no charges would be filed related to the accident or the prescription medications found inside the vehicle.
