GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -

A suspected burglar was arrested by Gulfport police Thursday thanks to the muddy mess created by Tropical Storm Cindy.

Sgt. Joshua Bromen said police responded to a suspicious activity call in the area of 45th St. and Harrison Ave. around 11:13 p.m. The caller told dispatchers someone was walking around a house with a flashlight.

Bromen said responding officers found a vehicle stuck in the yard of the home where the suspicious activity was reported. Bromen said officers also found the owner of the vehicle, 33-year-old William Wayne Herold, at the home.

Officers inspected the house and found a broken back door and several items missing from inside. Bromen said the stolen items were found in Herold’s stuck vehicle.

Herold was arrested and charged with burglary of a residence. His bond was set at $35,000.
