BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

Scrapin the Coast 2017 is going on as scheduled despite the week's bad weather. It's too early to tell, but Tropical Storm Cindy may have had an impact on this year's turnout.

The cars and trucks made their way onto the Coast Coliseum grounds steadily Friday morning. Compared to years past, some of the repeat participants said the turnout is not quite as impressive on this opening day of the weekend-long event.

"About two years ago it was packed out by about 6 o'clock. And for this year, with this weather, people were just saying they were going to wait it out and see what happens. Some even said they were going to wait until Saturday," said Justin Turner while waiting in line with his vehicle.

Organizers weren't worried. They anticipated a big crowd over the weekend. Eric Kendrick said the event is indoor and outdoor, and he was excited about cooler temperatures than usual.

"Much better than it's ever been. I say 86 degrees, 87. That's going to be a perfect weekend for us. I was a little nervous, because, you know, it's a storm. We didn't know how big it was going to get, but the way they kept tracking it going towards the Texas/Louisiana line, I had great hopes that it would be out of the way, especially coming during the middle of the week and not the weekend," said Kendrick.

According to Kendrick, his participants come from all over the country just to show off their tricked out, custom vehicles. The ticketed show is open to the public on both Saturday and Sunday. Organizers are hoping the event's 15th anniversary will prove to be bigger and better than ever.
