JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

On many streets in St. Andrews, a paddle boat is the preferred form of transportation for now.

“Your car is not going to make it through it. If you have a truck, you'll barely make it through it. If you live back here and you didn't park your car somewhere else, you're not going to get out," said resident Jacob Pullin.

The mail truck certainly isn't running, which isn't a surprise; with water even creeping into some homes, and drains not standing a chance of keeping up with the deluge.

“This is the worst it's ever been. I've been out here since 2002 and have never seen anything like this. Never," said Hester Spivacke.

Other people who call St. Andrews home are counting their blessings.

“Well, it's not as bad as it has been in the past. It has come all the way to the front door and splashed in the front door each time the cars would come by. It would make a wake and come to the front door, but this time it's not quite as bad," said Angela Dalgo. "I'm pleased."

While most of the people in the St. Andrews community have lived in the area for dozens of years, but some have not. When they saw Mother Nature open up the skies, newbies were a bit shocked.

“Well, we just moved here three months ago and this is the first experience I've had with heavy rain. Southern California doesn't get this kind of stuff, so this is all new to me," said Tom Thompkins.
