ST. MARTIN, MS (WLOX) -

A Latimer man is accused of stabbing his son in the back when the 24-year-old stepped in to defend his mother during a domestic dispute Thursday morning.

Franky Lee Wingate, 45, is now charged with two counts of domestic violence by aggravated assault.

Jackson County Sheriff Mike Ezell said deputies responded to the stabbing at a home on Briarwood Dr. around 8:15 a.m.

Investigators said Wingate and his wife were in an argument, and Wingate pulled out a knife to stop the woman when she tried to leave.  Capt. Randy Muffley said that’s when the son stepped in to defend his mother, and a scuffle ensued.

Ezell said Wingate stabbed his son in the back. Wingate was also injured in the fight.

Wingate and his son were both taken to the hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.
