SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) - Two inmates escaped from the Washington County Regional Correctional Facility. Then the sheriff fired six people and suspended two others.
Some people may consider the firings a little harsh and not politically correct. But Sheriff Milton Gaston says the June 2nd escape was an employee's fault.
The jail had another escape four months ago. We don't know all the details of what the employees did or did not do, that led to the escape. But criminals escaping is serious business. It leads to manhunts and dangers to the community.
Jailers need to take their jobs seriously and keep criminals in custody. Those who don't; deserve to be fired and replaced.
