GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -

With all that rain on Tuesday, it certainly wasn't much of a beach day. Despite the seriously soggy conditions, hundreds of visiting teenagers spent time in the sand and water.

In fact, if you drove Hwy. 90 between Debuys and Cowan roads in East Gulfport, you certainly noticed the large congregation of youth on the beach.

They are from Second Baptist Church in Houston, TX. The visiting junior high students are spending several days here on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

They weren't about to let a little, or even a lot, of rain ruin their beach plans. In fact, the wet weather may have made it more fun.

You can't beat the enthusiasm of youth. These teens ignored the downpours, concentrating instead on skim boarding, riding the water trikes, or even just digging a deep hole in the sand.

“We have recreation in the afternoon. We have small groups. We have just a lot of fun during the day and during the evenings,” said chaperone Eric Hystad.

Who needs sunshine? These teens were having a blast as the tropical moisture moved in.

“The rain is cold,” said one youngster. “So is the water,” added her friend.

That didn’t seem to stop them from having fun, despite the downpours. It was a remarkable day in the sand and sound, making memories in Mississippi.

“Yes, we'll all remember this day,” said Hystad.

This is the fourth straight year the youth group from Second Baptist Church has visited the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
