3 events aimed at getting Biloxi residents storm ready

Are you prepared for the next big storm? Biloxi residents will have three opportunities this week to learn more about how to be storm ready.

The free "R U Ready?" events will be from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at three locations:

  • Tuesday, June 20 at the Dr. Frank G. Gruich Sr. Community Center
  • Wednesday, June 21 at the Donal M. Snyder Sr. Community Center
  • Thursday, June 22 at the Joppa Shrine Center

"We have all the people that we feel are key players in the event of a hurricane emergency, tornado emergency, weather emergency. We brought them all together. We're going to have a roundtable discussion about what to do, what to anticipate, and how to prepare. What you need to do afterward," Fire Chief Joe Boney explained.

Chief Boney said educating the public on storm safety is one of his top priorities. The events are being held in multiple locations on different nights with the hope of reaching as many residents as possible.

Several businesses are also involved. Representatives from Southeastern Doors will be there to answer questions about hurricane shutters. Mercy Housing will be giving out hurricane prep kits. And the Humane Society will be on hand to talk about special concerns pet owners may have if they're evacuating or riding out a storm.
