OCEAN SPRINGS, MS (WLOX) -

Even with a day to soak it all in, Garrett Crochet still can't believe it. The Ocean Springs product is a Major League Baseball draft pick.

"I don't know, I was kind of star-struck at first," Crochet said. "I didn't really know what to think. I kind of thought it was a prank call at first, to be honest, but I've been working my entire life for this moment. It's definitely a dream come true."

A dream that became a lot more attainable as the draft inched closer and closer.

"A few weeks ago I had a workout with the (Milwaukee) Brewers over in Biloxi," Crochet said. "Ever since then I'd been feeling pretty confident that I might get drafted, but I was never sure. It's still pretty surprising."

Crochet can make plays at the plate, but it's the lefty's arm that led Milwaukee to take him in the 34th round with the 1014th overall pick. The 6'4, 178 pound southpaw went 6-4 with a 1.48 ERA in fourteen appearances his senior year.

"Well, I have a project-able arm and my height," Crochet said modestly when asked why the Brewers liked him. "I don't know, I just have a smooth motion, I guess. A good breaking ball."

A Jones County signee, Crochet is now deciding between the Bobcats, Texas and Tennessee, and plans to announce his decision for his collegiate career by next week. He's putting the professional dream on hold for now, but says getting drafted this early in his career will only push him further.

"It's a huge factor. It's gonna drive me to really be the best that I can and really work and strive to be better so that I can get my name called early in the draft. I hope that they stick with me."

Had Crochet signed with the Brewers, we may have seen the former Greyhound one day playing at MGM Park for Milwaukee's AA affiliate Biloxi.
