GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -

Mississippi Gulf Coast residents are known for stepping up to assist others in need. Their passion to help others was recently on full display.

Antonio and Michelle Dallas were in the processing of renovating their repairing Gulfport home when Antonio underwent a kidney and pancreas transplant in January. The double surgery - and the medical bills that followed- brought the remodeling project came to an abrupt halt.

After WLOX News Now aired a story about Antonio and Michelle, a kindhearted man named Mario came to the station and offered to help.

Mario then spent his weekend - all day Saturday and Sunday - putting in insulation, and installing sheet rock on the walls and ceilings. Antonio and his wife are thankful for Mario who's donating his off-time to make the repairs.

"It's a great feeling to know that everybody wants to pitch in and help, because it's been a rough road," said Antonia. "It's been a rough road, but I truly from my heart thank everybody for coming out helping me."

Antonio and Michelle say they've even heard from others who want to help Mario; who is working by himself.
