GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -

They are proud and patriotic. Dozens of veterans, many who served in World War II, gathered outside the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Gulfport for the annual Flag Day ceremony.

The Gulfport Fire Department hoisted a giant American flag, which hung over the reflection pool during the program. The National Anthem was sung, pledge to the flag recited, and various patriotic poems and readings shared.

Donald Knox, a battalion chief with the Gulfport Fire Department, was the guest speaker. He reflected on the meaning behind the Pledge of Allegiance.
