Some school bus drivers got a lesson in safe driving on Saturday. Drivers from Mississippi, Florida and Alabama competed in the Gulf States Bus Safety "Road"eo. They got the chance to show off their safety knowledge and their driving skills.
Drivers were judged on skills like how they well they handle rail road crossings, loading and unloading students and making right turns. Some drivers say completing the course prepares them for what they face on neighborhood streets.
"It puts you more defensive, puts you on the defensive more," Bay St. Louis bus driver Bill Williams said. "You have to be on the defensive. You gotta to be watching everything around you. If you don't, somebody's gonna slip out there and run into you."
The top three finishers will be eligible to compete next week at a regional competition in Georgia.
