Music fans excited about the Gulfport Music Festival's return

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -

The Gulfport Music Festival will return to Jones Park this fall. And WLOX News Now has confirmed the headliners include 3 Doors Down and Ludacris. A Facebook page set up for the event also lists appearances by Sugar Ray and Shaggy.

Representatives with the radio group Alpha Media tell us they have an agreement with the city to host a two-day music party at Jones Park, October 6-7. That’s also the second weekend of Cruisin the Coast.

Ocean Springs resident Michael Johnson echoes what many around the coast are saying. He looks forward to supporting the festival when it comes back to town, especially since it has a history of attracting best selling artists.

"It sounds like an interesting combination of music, I'd definitely like to see it," said Johnson.

Tickets are not yet on sale, and more details about the festival will be released in the next two weeks when the city and radio executives hold a joint news conference.

The Gulfport Music Festival started in 2011 as a downtown party, luring music lovers to the streets of Gulfport’s central business district. It moved to Jones Park in 2012.  When it did, it attracted big name entertainers.

Maroon 5, Kid Rock, Flo-Rida and many other top tier musicians performed in Gulfport at festival events in 2012, 2013 and 2014. Alpha Media pulled the plug on the Gulfport Music Festival in 2015, but always said it might come back.
