WIGGINS, MS (WLOX) -

The Wiggins Police Department and two other agencies teamed up Friday morning to get alleged drug dealers off the streets.

As of 8:45 a.m., 10 people had been arrested on actual drug sales or conspiracy to sell drugs. Those arrested are accused of selling drugs to undercover officers. Police said several of the suspects arrested were on parole or probation for prior drug and burglary charges.

Wiggins Police Chief Matt Barnett said his department has been scoping out multiple suspects for the past month and a half as part of this operation. Police also arrested several others on minor possession charges Friday.

"We've been getting information from our citizens here concerned about people here in the street selling drugs, and that's what we're doing, trying to clean up the streets,” said Barnett. “Some streets you can't even drive down without four or five people trying to sell drugs, and good, hardworking people are tired of dealing with it."

Victor Williams is at the Wiggins Police Department as the suspects are being brought in. He'll have more on this operation later today on WLOX News Now and WLOX.com.
