LONG BEACH, MS (WLOX) -

A Long Beach High School senior’s path to college has become less costly after receiving a $20,000 scholarship from Coca-Cola.

Bridget McMillian was selected from a pool of nearly 86,000 applicants nationwide and named as a 2017 Coca-Cola Scholar.

The prize also included a trip this past spring to The Coca- Cola Company international headquarters in Atlanta to network with other recipients and participate in leadership initiatives for a Scholar's Weekend.

Claude Nielsen, Chairman of the Board of the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation and retired President and Chief Executive Officer of Coca-Cola Bottling Company UNITED in Birmingham, Ala. said, “Bridget McMillian is part of a diverse group of extraordinary high school seniors who have shown a steadfast commitment to educational excellence, leadership and service to the school and community.”

McMillian joins the 29th class of Coca-Cola scholars and is part of a 5,700+ growing network of accoladed teens.
