Biloxi Shuckers pitcher Bubba Derby (L, 2-1) suffered the loss Monday night to the Braves, but had a no-hitter into the seventh inning. The Braves would post a 4-2 win over Biloxi thanks to a solid pitching performance by 19-year-old Mike Soroka (W, 7-3). He pitched eight shutout innings, scattered three hits and struck out nine. His seven wins on the season tied him for the Southern League lead.
Joey Meneses ended the no-hit bid by Derby with a single with 2 outs in the seventh inning. He would give up another single by Levi Hyams and was relieved by Taylor Scott. Scott gave up a git to Connor Lien that plated Meneses and the Braves led 1-0.
Josh Uhen took to the mound in the 8th inning and he gave up three runs on two hits, a walk, a hit by pitch, two wild pitches and a throwing error on a pickoff attempt.
In the ninth inning Dustin DeMuth drove home two Shuckers on a double off Braves reliever Rex Brothers. Jason Hursh got the final out for the Braves to pickup his fifth save on the season.
The Shuckers and Braves clash 6:35 p.m. Tuesday at Trustmark Park in Pearl.
