Southern Miss, Mississippi State to square off for Hattiesburg Regional Championship

The Hattiesburg Regional Championship comes down to two teams from the Magnolia State.

Southern Miss (50-14) knocked off South Alabama 8-3, and Mississippi State (38-25) eliminated the Jaguars 7-3 in the nightcap to set up a Regional Championship showdown between the Golden Eagles and the Bulldogs Monday at 1 pm.

To advance to their first Super Regional since 2009 and just their second in program history, Southern Miss only needs one win against the Bulldogs. However, for Mississippi State to advance, they have to beat USM at 1 pm and again at 6 pm.

The Golden Eagles won their lone contest against Mississippi State, a 7-5 outcome in March.

The winner of the Hattiesburg Regional advances to face LSU in the Baton Rouge Super Regional next weekend. The Tigers advanced to their 13th Super Regional by defeating Rice 5-0 late Sunday night. The Owls clinched their spot in the Baton Rouge Regional by winning the Conference USA Tournament in Biloxi last week.
